Lotus Train: Ninh Binh → Da Nang
Ninh Binh to Da Nang skips Ha Noi entirely, which is the point: travellers who have already done the capital can go straight from the karst country to the coast without doubling back north. You board late in Ninh Binh, sleep through the central provinces and come into Da Nang late morning, with the Hai Van coast in daylight for the last stretch. From the station it is a short ride to My Khe beach and about forty-five minutes to Hoi An. Cabins are private two-berth and four-berth rooms. This is one of the two longest legs Lotus sells, so the four-berth is worth taking as a family or a group rather than splitting across cabins.
