Lotus Train: Ha Noi → Da Nang
The longest southbound leg, and the one worth staying awake for at the end. SE19 runs through the night and takes the Hai Van section in the late morning, which is the stretch the photographs are of: the line is cut into the cliff above the water, higher and closer to the sea than the road tunnel that replaced it for cars. Da Nang station puts you a short ride from My Khe beach and roughly forty-five minutes from Hoi An, so this single ticket replaces a flight, two airport transfers and most of a day. Cabins are private, in two-berth and four-berth layouts. Take breakfast in yours and watch the coast go past rather than queueing for a boarding gate.
